Я много лет пиджак ношу.[[BR]]
Давно потёрся и не нов он.[[BR]]
И я зову к себе портного[[BR]]
и перешить пиджак прошу.[[BR]]

Я говорю ему шутя:[[BR]]
"Перекроите все иначе.[[BR]]
Сулит мне новые удачи[[BR]]
искусство кройки и шитья".[[BR]]

Я пошутил. А он пиджак[[BR]]
серьезно так перешивает,[[BR]]
а сам-то все переживает:[[BR]]
вдруг что не так. Такой чудак.[[BR]]

Одна забота наяву[[BR]]
в его усердьи молчаливом,[[BR]]
чтобы я выглядел счастливым[[BR]]
в том пиджаке. Пока живу.[[BR]]

Он представляет это так:[[BR]]
едва лишь я пиджак примерю --[[BR]]
опять в твою любовь поверю...[[BR]]
Как бы не так. Такой чудак.[[BR]]

I'd worn my ragged coat so bare[[BR]]
The tattered sleeves were thin as paper[[BR]]
And so I took it to a tailor[[BR]]
And asked him kindly for repair.[[BR]]

I made a joke and said, this coat[[BR]]
Requires total restoration,[[BR]]
To bring me glory and salvation[[BR]]
I need your skillful hand to sew.[[BR]]

But then my playful little words[[BR]]
Took on a meaning uninteded[[BR]]
As he methodically mended[[BR]]
He seemed disturbed, peculiar bird.[[BR]] 

And I observed the silent way[[BR]] 
He worked to rectify the garment[[BR]] 
As though my soul depended on it,[[BR]] 
This ragged coat, for all may days.[[BR]] 

He thought I'd slip into the sleeve[[BR]] 
And I would live again so clearly[[BR]]
That somehow you could love sincerely[[BR]]
But that's absurd, peculiar bird...[[BR]]
